West Orange Pulls Together to
Preserve & Restore Trail

Several West Orange civic and community organizations are collaborating on a Healthy West Orange Trails Connection project to “Preserve & Restore” the rural character of the Trail.

Representatives of the participating organizations came together on August 22 to celebrate the completion of the first restoration project – the planting of Southern Live Oaks and Fire Bushes along the West Orange Trail.

Creative Movement

This unique program introduces basic dance ballet technique and movement through dance, games, and song. Class focus is on gross motor skills, left/right, body awareness, ballet positions, and beginner ballet technique and language. Advance registration required.

Super Soccer Stars

Youth Running and Conditioning Program

This 4-week program uses games and activities focused on developing skills when attempting short and long distance running. Emphasis is placed on breathing techniques, gait analysis, core and strength, injury prevention, and overall running mechanics for speed and endurance.

Youth & Adult Tennis Lessons

Highly skilled instructor brings years of experience and knowledge to participants. Class space is limited, advance registration required.

Resident Newsletter is on its Way

Look for the Fall/Winter 2022-23 issue of Winter Garden Bulletin – Your Official City News Source to arrive in your mailbox in the next week or two. This colorful, 36-page biannual publication is your guide to the City’s upcoming fall, holiday, and winter events. It also serves as a handbook to the City’s classes and programs offered from now through February 2023. Look for the “News You Can Use” section inside for new announcements and helpful resident information.

Extra copies of the Winter Garden Bulletin are always available at City Hall (300 W. Plant St.) and Jessie Brock Community Center (310 N. Dillard St.).

Watch The Weather To Water Less

To conserve water during the rainy season, you may not even need to turn on your irrigation system. If you do not turn it off completely, make sure you have a functioning rain sensor device, as required by City ordinance, to ensure the sprinklers are not running when it is raining. These measures to save water can also save money on your monthly utility bill.

Also, please take note of your correct irrigation days. Watering is permitted two days per week during Daylight Saving Time (currently in place). Remember, water only when needed, and not between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Compostable Products Don’t Belong

in the Recycling Cart

Compostable containers, cups, and cutlery are not recyclable and should be discarded in a trashcan. Compostable products are not meant for recycling and should not be placed inside the recycling cart. These items can actually contaminate the recycling stream if they are mixed with petroleum-based plastics, or if compostable products are mixed with paper and cardboard.

You should not try to compost them at home either, unless the label indicates the product is okay for home composting. According to the EPA, plastic that is labeled as compostable is generally intended to be sent to an industrial compost facility, which has higher temperatures and different breakdown conditions than those found in a typical homeowner’s compost bin. If you cannot compost at home, please place compostable items in the trashcan.

PUBLIC SAFETY:

• 911 Dispatchers (Full-time):  Experienced or Trainees to coordinate incoming calls for service with Police resources, assess/prioritize calls, dispatch Officers, maintain/monitor Officer responses, conduct/enter inquiries, relay information, and help with lifesaving instructions. Full-time new hires are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus!!

PARKS:

• Parks Workers (Full-Time): Needed to perform grounds keeping and landscape maintenance of City parks, grounds, and facilities.  Responsibilities include use of equipment to install, care for, and maintain turf, shrubs, trees, ground cover, plant containers, and seasonal plantings. Performs irrigation maintenance as needed. Assists with preparation, set-up and removal of decorations for special events, including holiday events. Performs custodial services at parks and other City owned facilities and buildings. Must have experience with the use of landscape equipment and performing manual labor. 

FACILITIES:

• Electrician  (Full-time): Responsible for journey-level electrical work involving installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment, machinery, power appliances, fixtures or other electrical components within City buildings and facilities. Three years of recent building maintenance experience in commercial buildings and/or facilities is preferred. Must be able to obtain Journeyman Electrical license within six months of employment start date.

PUBLIC SERVICES:

• Solid Waste Drivers (Full-time): Requires Florida CDL Class B to pick up and haul garbage and refuse, experienced in using some/all of the following:  Commercial Front End Loader, Rear End Loader, ASL, Boom Truck, Container Delivery Truck, & Roll off Truck. Scheduling flexibility is essential, as routes may require varying schedules including early morning, weekend, etc.
• Utilities Collection Field Technicians & Distribution Field Technicians (Full-time): Experienced or Trainees to perform physically demanding work (have/obtain a Florida CDL Class B) while using light and/or heavy equipment.  Locates water mains and valves and installs, relocates, replaces, repairs & maintains gravity sewer lines, force mains, manholes, service connections, water mains, fire hydrants, gate valves, etc. related to water and wastewater systems. Must be available and able to answer emergency or service calls after normal working hours.

• Receptionist (Full-time): The City of Winter Garden is seeking a Receptionist for the information desk to be the “face of the City.” The receptionist will greet citizens and guests via the phone and in person. The ideal candidate is outgoing, friendly, and approaches all tasks with customer service excellence in mind. The receptionist performs administrative and clerical duties. Previous experience working in an office setting is preferred. Scheduling flexibility is required for evening meetings, as needed.
• Permit Technician (Full-time): The Building Division is seeking a Permit Technician.  The ideal candidate will have experience collecting various forms of payments from customers, enjoys working with the public and providing outstanding customer service, and has computer software and varied administrative and clerical experience.  The Permit Technician will take minutes for board, committee, and other various meetings. Must have scheduling flexibility to attend evening meetings. Previous experience working in a construction office setting, permitting position, or related role preferred. Training will be provided.

• IT Analyst (Full-time): Provides help desk technical support and problem solving assistance, troubleshoots network related, software, and hardware issues while tracking responsibilities within a ticketing system. Responsible to set up PC workstations, including imaging creation and maintenance, user email accounts, and City access permissions. Provides assistance with Cisco IP telephone system programming. Assists with operation and support of VMWare, VSphere virtual servers, and physical SANs, AS400, and other systems.
