CFX SR 429 Map

SR 429 Construction Commences in Winter Garden

The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) began construction activities yesterday (May 31) on SR 429 FROM TILDEN ROAD TO SOUTH OF FLORIDA’S TURNPIKE to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

This 3.6-mile SR 429 Capacity Improvements Project (Segment 1) will add a travel lane in each direction, expanding the expressway from four to six lanes (three travel lanes in each direction). In addition, wider median shoulders to temporarily accommodate traffic during emergency response events are also being added. Ten sound walls are also planned for this segment. Click here to view a map of the project.

During construction, temporary lane and ramp closures will be necessary to accommodate work. Daytime operations, including pile driving, are scheduled 7 am-5 pm, while night work is scheduled 8:30 pm-6 am.

For more information, please contact Kevin Camara, CFX Public Information Officer, at 407-383-5817 or Construction@CFXway.com.

Hurricane Preparedness - Are You Ready?

Get Ready for Hurricane Season

Hurricane season is here, June 1 – November 30, so prepare now in order to avoid placing items curbside as a storm approaches, which is often after your scheduled yard waste and large bulk items collection day.

Avoid this risk by trimming and pruning trees now as well as disposing of unwanted outdoor pots, decorations, large objects, and patio furniture. Taking these preparations now will help avoid having loose items curbside that can cause damage as well as help ease last minute panic.

Visit the Winter Garden Public Safety Hurricane Information page for useful emergency preparedness information.

WE’VE GOT MAIL:
A Postal History of West Orange County

June 1 - August 31

The mail began to move through our region over 160 years ago. Missives brought by pack mules, fast horses, and efficient wagons began to arrive at post offices established in the tiny agricultural communities mushrooming along the fertile south shore of Lake Apopka.

The exhibit features the post offices that served as lifelines to a pioneer population living hundreds or even thousands of miles from major cities. Included are letters and announcements heralding births, weddings, and the beginning of World War II. Collectors will enjoy viewing philatelic items related to moving our mail efficiently and quickly over the years.
