National Farmers Market Week 2021

It’s no secret that we have one of the nation’s best farmers markets right here in our backyard. A farmers market provides many benefits to a community such as the following:

  • serves as a local gathering place to buy hyper-local items that you cannot typically find in other retail stores
  • a central place to find local, fresh, healthy, flavorful, and nutrient-dense foods
  • provides retail options for local farmers to sell their products and, in turn, encourages local farmers
  • supports the local economy and a healthy lifestyle
  • brings the community together and provides a central gathering place
  • strengthens our downtown by bringing customers and visitors every Saturday

In honor of National Farmers Market Week, show appreciation for this community cornerstone by stopping by the Winter Garden Farmers Market. The Market is held every Saturday from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Downtown Pavilion, 104 S. Lakeview Ave. Click here for more information about the market and the benefits it provides to our community.

Zero Waste Lunch

Head Back to School with a
Waste-Free Lunchbox

It’s almost time to head back to class, and with a little planning for lunches you can prevent the usage of single-use plastics such as straws, spoons, and forks, and stop the waste of disposable packaging that end up in the landfill. Buy food and drink in bulk, and then add these items to your back-to-school list to help you pack waste-free lunches for your kids. Grown-ups can use these, too.

  • Insulated lunch bag or steel lunchbox
  • Reusable sandwich and snack bags
  • Refillable water/drink bottles and thermos
  • Travel utensil sets (or shop for inexpensive stainless spoons and forks at a thrift store)
  • Various sizes of reusable containers for leftovers, fruit, dips, etc.
  • Washable napkins
For more information, call 407.877.5193.

Faucet Dripping Water

An Old-Fashioned Water Saving Tip

It’s hot and you’re thirsty for a glass of water. Do you turn on the faucet and let it run until the water gets cold? That habit could waste a lot of water. According to Faucet Boss, the average flow rate of a faucet is between 1.0 GPM and 1.5 GPM (Gallons Per Minute).

The Alliance for Water Efficiency reports a new kitchen faucet flows at a rate of approximately ½ gallon per minute, while older faucets may flow at closer to 2.2 gallons per minute. That means you could be pouring up to a gallon of water down the drain for every 30 seconds that you leave the tap running.

Hydrate and save water by filling a pitcher or reusable water bottles with tap water and placing in the refrigerator to chill.

LIVE THEATRE

Man of La Mancha

Written by Dale Wasserman | Music by Mitch Leigh
Lyrics by Joe Darion | Directed by Joseph C. Walsh

Like beauty my friend, ‘tis all in the eyes of the beholder. A story of imagination, adventure, and chivalry rises from the darkness and despair of a prison cell, carried aloft by some of the American Theatre’s most familiar and beloved songs. The walls fall away as Miguel de Cervantes transforms into his legendary hero Don Quixote and humanizes his fellow inmates through his musical misadventures. This bold reimagining of Don Quixote’s quest — a glorious affirmation of the resilience of the human spirit — dares everyone to dream “The Impossible Dream” and search for the good in each one of us.

August 27 – September 19 | Matinee and evening performances
Tickets start at $35
